CHECK-IN: BRAZIL
We will have private hotel check-in facilities for the Jungle Marathon competitors. This should make the process a whole lot easier with not much waiting around in queues.
If you get anything put on your bill in any of the hotels, please make sure you don't forget to pay them.
The Hotel Tropical in Santarem has a cyber café that is very good and a lot of hotels in Rio offer free Internet access. You will also find Internet access in all the airports.
- Traveller's checks are better in US dollars; the rate for sterling is not as good.
- Take a credit card with you if you can; however, be vigilant about where you use your credit card.
- Cash is always the best option.
- Cash advances are available from cash machines in the hotel in Santarem and in many places in Rio de Janeiro.

SIGHTSEEING
Rio de Janeiro is a fantastic city with many tourist attractions.
To make sure you get a chance to see everything while you are there, pre-arranged tours will be available to book before you go. Tours will include visits to the Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer statue), Sugarloaf Mountain and the Tijuca forest among many other options.
By going on these tours you will make sure your time is well spent. Sightseeing independently is much more difficult and you most likely will not make it to all the sites. Going to see any soccer (football) games in Rio needs to be booked well in advance.
FOOD AND FUN
Beer can be as cheap as 4 Reals and a good meal for 14-18 Reals.
Vegetarians - Don't forget to book your onboard meals when checking in. And, keep in mind vegetarianism is not as popular in Brazil as it is in the US, although you can still get very nice meals in some good restaurants.
Be vigilant about where you use your credit card. Cash is always the best option.
Finally, have a nice time. The Brazilian people are very friendly, fun loving, like to party, and even more, they like to dance!
