Many
have asked WHY in the world I would
want to run the Badwater Double
again this July. If you read the July
issue of Running
Times magazine
you know the story of the 2006
Badwater Double. We raised close to
$300,000 for Religious Teachers Filippini
to help AIDS orphans.
For
many years I have raised money for
RTF and will continue to raise
money for them as long as God
allows. In May 2008, I will set off
on another major fund raising
effort for the RTF children. Sister
Marybeth, my very good friend
who works with the AIDS orphans, told
me this: "Lisa I hope God lets
you live until you're at least 100
and that your legs hold up. We
have so much work to do!!!!!"
So why am I running the Badwater Double
this year for the MPD
Foundation?
Last October, my husband Jay came home
with a brochure on the MPD
Foundation and a letter from a very good friend who
was running the Big Sur Marathon
to raise money for MPD. I had no idea what
MPD was so I sat and read the brochure
and my heart felt a kick. It was telling
me, Lisa you can do something to help.
I went to the MPD website and made
a donation. A few days passed. I continued
to get more information on MPD and
the very special people we know who have
been diagnosed with MPD. It became
clear to me that I was to do something
and that was to run the Badwater Double
again.
Last year was a great success. This
year will be much simpler; less crew
and I hope to be able to accomplish the
goal in a faster time.
My purpose behind running the Badwater
Double or any event is not ego based.
I truly believe and know that God has given
me a gift and that I am able to run
to help make a difference. I yearn for
this and it is part of my existence
on this earth.
Two days before I read the information
on the MPD
Foundation I had read
about the death of one of the best female
endurance athletes in the World,
Susan Butcher. She was the Iditarod Champion
and was only 50 years old. I was
very sad to read about her death. She also
had MPD.
I chose to run the Badwater Double
again this July for the MPD Foundation
because I know that this is what God wants
me to do. So many people are dying
of all kinds of cancer and we can make
a difference. You and I can make
a difference. 100% of your donation will
go right to the cause. Yes 100%!!! 1 dollar,
2 dollars, 20, 50, 100 or 1,000,
whatever you can give does make a difference.
Every cent makes a difference. If
you are not able to make a donation you
can donate your time by passing this along
to someone else who might be interested.
Running Badwater, let alone the Double,
requires a crew of people to help
you along the way. These people are not
paid for their time. These people
are giving a gift of their time to help
me accomplish this goal. We are a
team and without them this would not be
possible. The six people below will
be taking 8-9 days away from work and family
to help the MPD
Foundation and see that
this dream becomes a reality. I personally
want to thank them from the bottom of my
heart for trusting and believing
in what we are doing; knowing that they
are making a big difference in the lives
of so many.
Thank you for supporting me and the
MPD
Foundation,
Lisa
