Runners toe the line for the start of the 2011 Teton Turkey Chase.

The 2011 Teton Turkey Chase was held on Saturday, Novemeber 19th, and although it was quite breezy and cold, the number of participants was still up nicely from last year.  All together more than 120 runners ran in the 10K, 5K or 1 Mile Fun Run.  The 10K race was won by Matthew Chorney from Jackson with a time of 36:46:00.  Liz Onufer won the women’s division in 51:25:00.   Caleb Moosman of Driggs won the 5K with a time of 18:57.  Melissa Davidson of Victor finished in 24:59 to win the women’s division.  Aidan Walters of Driggs and Rylee Raz of Victor won the 1 Mile Fun Run Fun with times of 6:55 and 7:15 respectively.  This year we had 36 runners from the Rundezvous Program from the Rendezvous Upper Elementary School.  This is a wonderful initiative to encourage our young people to get out and be active.

Most of the runners stayed around for snacks and to visit well after the finish of their event, and it was clear the everyone was having a great time.

Note:

- All Aid Stations will have water and Powerade sports drink (dispensed from coolers by way of new quick-fill nozzles—we’ll have these on display at the Expo: http://www.hydrapouch.com/hydrapour/)

- AS#5 and AS#9 will have Jelly Belly Sport Beans, courtesy of the great folks at Yippie I-O Candy on Jackson Town Square. These will be in the mini serving size bags, containing six assorted flavor beans (approximately 50 cal.).

Please note, the 2 satellite water stations on the course are both self-service.  Participants in all events, including the 10K, should carry a hydration source (water bottle or bladder system) while on the course. There will be a limited food supply at the Cold Springs AS (due to bear sighting) so you can expect the following there: drinks (Hammer Heed and sodas), gels and a small selection of food (chips, hard candy).  While we suggest that every participant carry a supply of things they like, all of the other full-service aid stations will have: Hammer Heed (Strawberry or Orange), sodas (coke, ginger ale, mt. dew, sprite or similar), snacks (eg: Hammer gel, chips, pretzels, hard candy, cookies, m&ms, pb&j sandwiches, turkey sandwiches, fruit, plus other random selections); electrolyte tablets; vaseline; sunscreen; bug spray and ice.  Click here for the link to the AID Station detail page.

NEW COURSE MAPS NOW AVAILABLE

As noted earlier on the Course Description Page of the web site, there have been some modifications to the 50 Mile and Trail Marathon courses.  And we have also introduced the 50K course for the first time this year.  These course maps are now available on the Maps Page of the site.

Registration is still open for all events (50 Mile Ultra, 50K Ultra, Trail Marathon, 10K, and Kid’s Fun Run) .  So if you haven’t already signed up, we hope you will still consider running one of these wonderful races.  We were up marking the courses this weekend and and the trails are in great shape.  The flowers are still in full bloom, the vistas are simply spectacular (as usual), and the weather forecast looks perfect.  We hope to see you at one of the starting lines on Saturday morning.
